Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) – Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Control System Upgrade Works
Climate Edge Consult Sdn. Bhd. has been appointed to undertake the upgrading works for the Fan Coil Unit (FCU) control system at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). The project focuses on improving the reliability, maintainability and operational efficiency of the existing FCU infrastructure through the installation of a modern Building Automation and Control System (BACS).
The scope of works comprises three primary components. Firstly, the supply, fabrication and installation of dedicated FCU electrical control panels complete with the necessary protection devices, power distribution, control equipment and termination facilities. Secondly, the installation of all associated containment systems including conduits, trunking, cable trays and field cabling to establish a robust electrical and communication network between the FCUs, sensors and control panels. Finally, the project includes the installation, testing and commissioning of intelligent controllers, sensors, actuators and IP-based communication devices to enable seamless monitoring and control of each FCU through a centralised platform.
Upon completion, the upgraded system will provide real-time operational visibility of each FCU, allowing maintenance personnel to monitor equipment status, operating parameters, alarms and performance remotely. The new control architecture is designed to improve equipment reliability, simplify troubleshooting, reduce downtime and support proactive maintenance strategies. All works are carried out in accordance with hospital engineering requirements while ensuring minimal disruption to critical healthcare operations. The completed system will provide a scalable backbone that supports future expansion and integration with the hospital’s wider Building Management System (BMS), contributing towards improved energy efficiency, operational resilience and long-term asset management.
