Project overview
Climate Edge Consult successfully delivered the commissioning of a new Air Handling Unit (AHU) system for a hospital operating theatre.
The project involved replacing the existing AHU, integrating new mechanical and electrical systems, and performing comprehensive testing and commissioning to ensure reliable, energy-efficient, and compliant operation. Every phase was carefully executed to minimize disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Briefs & Objectives
The project was initiated to upgrade the hospital’s air handling system, ensuring optimal environmental conditions within the operating theatre. Our objective was to improve system performance, enhance indoor air quality, and comply with healthcare engineering standards through a complete AHU replacement and commissioning process.
Our Philosophy & Solutions
Climate Edge adopted a structured engineering approach, beginning with detailed planning and site assessments before safely dismantling the existing system. The new AHU was installed, integrated with mechanical and electrical services, and thoroughly tested to verify optimal performance. Each stage was carried out with strict quality control and safety procedures to ensure seamless project delivery.

Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) – Operating Theatre AHU Environmental Monitoring & Performance Optimisation
Climate Edge Consult Sdn. Bhd. is entrusted with providing specialised environmental monitoring and technical assessment services for the Operating Theatre (OT) Air Handling Units (AHUs) serving the surgical complex at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). The project is undertaken within a live hospital environment where stringent environmental conditions are critical to ensuring patient safety, infection control and uninterrupted surgical operations.
The scope encompasses continuous monitoring and verification of the AHU performance serving the operating theatres – maternity, gynae and paediatric, with emphasis on maintaining compliance with the specified temperature, relative humidity and pressure requirements. The monitoring programme combines real-time Building Management System (BMS) data, calibrated field instruments and independent data loggers to evaluate both air-side and water-side performance of the AHUs. Parameters including room temperature, relative humidity, chilled water coil performance, off-coil conditions, airflow characteristics and psychrometric properties are analysed to determine the effectiveness of each air handling system.
Beyond routine monitoring, Climate Edge provides engineering interpretation and root cause analysis whenever performance deviations are identified. This includes detailed assessment of chilled water flow, heat exchange efficiency, duct leakage, control sequences, sensor validation and overall HVAC system behaviour. Findings are translated into practical engineering recommendations, enabling corrective actions to be implemented with minimal disruption to hospital operations.
Through a structured data-driven approach, the project delivers continuous assurance that the operating theatre environments remain within the required operating limits while supporting long-term optimisation of the hospital’s HVAC infrastructure. The monitoring framework also establishes a reliable technical baseline for predictive maintenance, system performance verification and future integration with the hospital’s intelligent Building Management System, reinforcing operational reliability, regulatory compliance and energy-efficient operation of these critical healthcare facilities.
